Dear Parents,
Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten at Savannah Christian Preparatory School! I am so excited to be given the
opportunity to teach your child this year! Within this letter, I would like to share a little about myself, my family, my education and teaching experience along with a few reminders to help make your child’s first formal educational experience as smooth as possible.
My name is Jill (Gracen) Elton and I have two beautiful daughters, Annie and Josie. Both of my daughters have attended SCPS since Pre-K and are entering the eleventh and ninth grades, respectively. I graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduating, I began teaching in the Chatham County Public School System. My first seven years, I taught Pre-Kindergarten at Port Wentworth Elementary School. I then decided to move closer to home, and taught Kindergarten for three years at Pooler Elementary School. In 2008, I moved to SCPS where I taught Kindergarten at the DeRenne Ave. campus. The 2009-10 year brought about more change and provided me with the opportunity to move to the Chatham Parkway campus teaching Pre-K again! My latest educational adventure was the completion of my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education through Georgia Southern University whereas I graduated May 6, 2016.
I’ve always known that I wanted to work with young children. I remember hearing my grandmother, Myrtice Gracen - who taught at Pooler Elementary School for nearly 30 years, talk about how exciting teaching was! It’s never the same day twice; it’s amazing to see how much the children “grow” throughout the year and IT’S FUN to make learning fun!!!
With this is mind, it is my goal this year to provide your child with a firm foundation for his/her educational endeavors. I will be available for conferences as needed, and will assist you and your child to the best of my
abilities. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail (business card stapled to front inner pocket of folder) or note if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year.
Lastly, a few reminders:
1) PLEASE STRIVE TO ARRIVE (and be in the classroom) on TIME (8:25 a.m.).
2) Students will need a snack daily from home.
3) Students will need to have and keep a complete change of uniform clothes at school in case of accidents or spills.
BOYS- shirt, pants, underwear and plain white socks.
GIRLS- skirt with red uniform shorts / jumper / skort, underwear, plain white socks.
PLEASE place clothes in a gallon sized zip-lock bag and CLEARLY LABEL BAG WITH CHILD’S NAME.
4) PLEASE label each piece of your child’s clothing with his/her name (including
outerwear in the winter months).
5) If your child gets “cold” easily, please send with them or allow them to keep an extra
uniform sweater/jacket in their cubbie. They will be able to wear them as needed.
6) Please read /sign-as needed, return and clean out your child’s “Daily Communication
Folder” nightly.
7) Your child will need either a lunch/milk ticket or a home lunch daily.
Expecting a great year,
Jill G. Elton
